What is periodontal disease?
Periodontal disease in pets
Periodontal disease is one of the most common health problems in veterinary medicine. Even if your dog's teeth appear white and clean, studies show that up to 80% of dogs over the age of three have some degree of periodontal disease. The incidence is higher in smaller dogs, and the incidence increases with age.
Unfortunately, by the time owners notice their dog's periodontal disease, the condition is often already quite advanced. Outward symptoms are rare, and early signs can be difficult to detect simply by looking inside a dog's mouth. Therefore, prevention, along with regular dental checkups, is crucial.
